Epping Cricket Club Won 54 runs
Match report
Essex League Division 2
Epping 177 beat Billericay 123 by 54 runs
Epping's stormed to a stunning victory thanks to a fine performance from their bowlers.
Billericay were reduced to 69 for 9 chasing Epping's 177 and only managed some respectability thanks to a last wicket stand of 54 runs.
The wreckers for Epping were 16-year-old paceman Dean Majeed and seasoned trundlers Jon Everett and Tim Adams.
New ball pair Majeed (2 for 26)and Everett took two wickets apiece to reduce the home side to 16 for 4.
Then Adams got in on the act to rip the heart out of the middle and lower order.
Everett ended up with 4 for 46 off 16 brilliant overs, Adams weighed in with 3 for 45 including the key wicket of Billericay dangerman Nathan Batson, comprehensively bowled for 5.
The only resistance came fom Billericay skipper Paul Southgate with a determined 72 not out and number 11 Paul Mills with 16. They were the only men to make double figures as Epping's bowlers found movement and bounce on an otherwise batsman friendly wicket.
Epping had been sitting rather nervously at the half way stage after only posting 177.
They did so after first subsiding to 33 for 3, recovering thanks to knocks from Majeed (19) and Simon Oliver (24).
Dave Westall continued the fightback with a well hit 34 but when that trio went in quick succession to loose shots Epping were staring down the barrell of a score below 150.
They made a more creditable 177 thanks to lower order resistance from Matt Barrett (27) and Dave Bickley (15).
Epping captain Geoff Maynard: "This win showed the true spirit of the side as it came on the back of a right thumping against Upminster the week before.
"Our bowlers were fantastic and when they are on their game they are a match for anyone."
