Epping Cricket Club Saturday 1st v Benfleet on Sat 24 Jun 2006 at 1.30
Epping Cricket Club Won 3 wickets
Match report
Essex League Div 3
Benfleet 152-9 lost to Epping 154-7 by 3 wickets
A MISERLY performance from Epping's bowlers saw them notch up a comfortable win against Benfleet.
Super seamers Tim Adams (4 for 53) and Pat Haslam (1 for 20), birthday boy Terry Preston (2 for 20) and seasoned trundler Jon Everett (1 for 32) were the keys to the win in a good all round performance.
All bowled good tight probing spells to strangle the life out of any Benfleet batting charge.
Only number 8 Steve Scott managed to break any shackles notching up a battling 46 to take the visitors towards any sort of decent total.
But the visitors 52-over knock was never going to be enough on an improving Epping track.
Young guns Dan Sly and Dan Twitchett started the Epping reply studiously and notched up 60 for the first wicket.
Sly was the first to go for 33 and Twitchett followed soon after for 19 but that brought Epping's Bangladeshi star Shuhan Chowdhury to the crease.
The little master soon upped the run rate, smashing a series of 4s and 6s to rattle up a quickfire 50 in just over 30 balls.
With Epping seemingly cruising to an easy victory Benfleet introduced canny spinner Roy Steed.
A series of poor strokes saw Epping wobble and there was tension in the air when Chowdhury was trapped LBw by Steed for 67.
But a sensible knock from Si Oliver allowed Terry Preston to whack the winning runs with an over to spare.
Steed had been the star man for the visitors - taking 5 for 21 when all the other Benleet bowlers had struggled.
