Epping Cricket Club Sunday Gentlemen's XI v Maylands Green on Sun 23 Jul 2006 at 2.00
Epping Cricket Club Won 7 wickets

Match report The Gent took on Maylands and came away with a convincing victory thanks to a destructive batting display on a day where 471 runs (yes I am correct Dan Taylor!!!) were score for the loss of only 8 wickets.

Maylands elected to bat first and were 0-1 off the first over thanks to Beaumont’s probing line. Barrett kept tings tight from the other end, apart from his first over of 3 wides, and Maylands were finding the going tough. At drinks Maylands were 73 for 1 off 20 over, in a 40 over match, and looking at a very small and insignificant total. What ever was in the orange squash perked the batsman up as they started their assault on the Gents attach with the Tetlow spin twins coming in or some harsh treatment. Holden briefly stemmed the runs and was able to pick up the wicket of Francis for 29 with the score on 132 for 2. Old stager Sly also picked up the wicket of Adams bowled all ends up for 2. Maylands were recovering well with the powerful blows of Jarrett who was dispatching the ball all around the ground with ease. Tweeker Sibley came on and claimed a couple of late wickets but the recovery was done with Maylands setting the Gents 235 for victory. Francis had scored a mammoth 134 not out and Maylands had scored 161 runs in the last 20 overs.

Epping sent out Dan Twitchett and Dan Sly to start their run chase and when Sly returned to the pavilion as the first man out the score had already rattled along to 145. Sly had scored a majestic 74 before giving catching practice to square leg, a shot he had done a few overs before and been dropped (will he never learn!!). Twitchett was continuing his rich vain of scoring for the Gent by destroying the Maylands attack. After 20 overs the Gents had reached 153 for 2, some 80 runs ahead on the Duckworth Lewis system!!!! By this time Holden had been and gone for a classy 0 and had been replaced by Tonker Taylor. Twitchett had now gone in to his shell and was dealing in single only and Taylor was playing some lusty blows. Taylor was eventually run out, too many pies again at tea, for a hard hit 24 and Maylands could see some light at the end of the tunnel. That light turned off by the new batman Sibley who preceded hit fours at will. With Twitchett nearing his century the only concern was that Sibley would get too many runs. The Gents reached their total easily with Twitchett unbeaten on 95 and Sibley not out 24. The Gents only need 31.4 overs to overcome their target with ease and immense style.

The victory set up some good form for the coming cricket week which hopefully is full of runs and wickets for all the Epping lads.
